The American Internet Services (AIS) DR/BC Toolbox is Well-Received at the Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity Forum in Los Angeles.
Dozens of attendees exploring options, expressed interest in the AIS premium data center footprints in San Diego, Los Angeles and Phoenix as well as the regional private optical network.
SAN DIEGO, Calif., December 14, 2010 – American Internet Services (AIS), a leading provider of enterprise-class data center and connectivity services in the western United States, announced its Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity (DR/BC) Toolbox was well received during a forum that took place in Los Angeles last week.
Hosted by Forum Networking Events of Sarasota, Florida, the Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Forum attracted senior managers, directors and buyers directly concerned with their facility’s disaster recovery, business continuity and emergency preparedness.
The attendees heard how AIS has the foundation and experience to be an ideal partner in Disaster Recovery / Business Continuity (DR/BC) planning. The custom solutions designed by the AIS experts utilize components of the DR/BC Toolbox (Geographic Diversity, Critical Systems Infrastructure, Private Optical Network, HA/ BC Infrastructure and Technical Expertise), to help companies cost-effectively meet their objectives.
“In addition to our Toolbox, what really sparked interest is our footprint – the locations of our data centers,” said Mark De John, vice president of sales. “San Diego is a great option for California compared to the Bay Area and Los Angeles. Coupled with our Phoenix location and the private optical network running between our seven data centers, attendees definitely saw AIS as a viable option for their DR/BC needs.”
DR/BC Toolbox Highlights:

  • Geographic Diversity. AIS, which operates data centers in the Southern California business hubs of San Diego and Los Angeles, opened a data center in Phoenix Arizona specifically to address the need for DR/BC. Phoenix has the reputation of being one of the safest locations in the nation in terms of protection from natural disasters.
  • Critical Systems Infrastructure. AIS data centers are designed and operated in compliance with specifications of TIA 942 and the Uptime Institute Tier Classification system to ensure “continuous uptime” reliability, availability and productivity for all of our clients. Whether a client requires a tailored solution with simple geographic diversity or a full Tier 7 level of high-availability (HA)/DR with mirrored image implementation, AIS provides the environment that ensures continuous operational support.
  • Private Optical Network. To maximize performance and security, AIS manages its own private optical network between data centers. The network consists of OC-192 from multiple providers and in some cases incorporates dark fiber links to meet the client’s operational requirements. Protected and unprotected private connectivity is provided in increments from 100Mbps to multiple Gigabit Ethernet connections.
  • HA / BC Infrastructure. AIS employs a number of High-Availability (HA) and Business Continuity technologies to implement client DR/BC objectives. AIS has deployed enterprise-level load-balancing infrastructure in every data center. In addition, sophisticated global network load-balancing hardware has been deployed in San Diego and Phoenix to provide large-scale service redundancy and business continuity. These building blocks are used in conjunction with inherent network redundancy technologies to meet client recovery / continuity requirements.
  • Technical Expertise. AIS Engineering and Professional Services staff (“ProServices”) are experts in networking and high-availability infrastructure. They understand that there is no “one size fits all” solution for disaster recovery/business continuity. By leveraging the technical expertise of the AIS team, combined with the AIS DR/BC Methodology, the clients can be confident that the plan that’s developed incorporates the most appropriate technologies for their environment.

Customers Already Gravitating to AIS for DR/BC:
Among the customers turning to AIS for Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity solutions is Color Broadband Communications. In April, this telecommunications solutions provider expanded its colocation footprint into the AIS Phoenix data center.
Color Broadband offers Internet services including voice and data to businesses that include law enforcement, local government and banks with mission critical applications. In order to achieve the highest level of communications and core facility diversity, they required the implementation of a mirrored network and service infrastructure that provided simultaneous and alternate site access in compliance with standard disaster recovery designs which encompass physical distance, separate fault line, low latency for replication and alternate fiber paths.
“Having the ability to bypass and re-route our customers traffic in the event of a primary site outage in Los Angeles to our AIS Lightwave Data Center (San Diego) Network Core, uniquely satisfies our company’s Disaster Avoidance initiatives and provides a significant difference between our competitors service level agreements,” said Scheron Briones, vice president of engineering/R&D at Color Broadband.
The AIS Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity Methodology
AIS ProServices provides tailored Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity (DR/BC) solutions based on a four-part life cycle model: Assess, Design, Implement, and Operate.
Each stage in the model represents an important aspect of the overall solution. By standardizing on this model, AIS ensures consistency and effectiveness of the solution.
